HOUSE PARTY PLANNING KIT
Making Connections to Change Haiti

The lowdown on what goes into hosting a great house party for Love the Children.

What is a Love the Children house party?

Love the Children house parties are informal events that allow us to tell your friends why we love the children of Haiti and to encourage them to join us. A Love the Children house party is NOT a fundraiser. We will NOT ask for money.

Why throw a house party for Love the Children?

1. To raise awareness of Love the Children’s mission.

2. To help Love the Children reach out to new folks who care about those who Jesus called “the least of these, my family” and have a desire and who want to do something about childhood poverty in Haiti.

3. To have fun and meet other like-minded folks.

Important steps to planning a LtC House Party

1. Pick a date: The date should be one that is convenient for you. Others have found the Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons work well. We will work closely with you to be sure to have either the Principal or a member of the Board of Directors available for your party.

2. Build a guest list: Invite your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and members of groups in which you are involved. Recruit cohosts to help spread the work and invite their contacts.

3. Plan the party: Think about details like:

· Directions to your home or the party location

· Where the guest will park

· Where in your home is the most comfortable place to accommodate the group

· Providing enough seats

· Where the food and drink will be located, etc.

You might want to consider a theme to encourage attendance as long as it remains clear that the primary reason for the party is to give information about Love the Children’s mission. Food and drink is up to you, but food that can be eaten while standing is best. Finger foods that don’t require utensils, like hors d’oeuvres, cheese and crackers, veggies, cookies and brownies work well. It does not need to be fancy.

4. Send invitations: Send the type of invitation with which you feel most comfortable. You may find it convenient to use Evite.com or Party4aPurpose.com instead of traditional paper invitations.

· The Party Title: Love the Children Informational Party

. Text: Please join me to learn more about a great organization. Love the Children is showing God’s love to the children of Haiti by helping their parents and caretakers provide basic needs such as food, water, shelter and the hope that an education can give. This is NOT a fundraiser and you will NOT be asked for money. (It is important to use this text so that it is clear to your invitees that this is purely informational and not a fundraiser.) We can send a digital image of our logo and pictures if you would like to add them to your invitation. Include date, time, location, directions, your own message and any other information about your party theme, what will be served, etc.) Consider asking each invitee to bring a guest.

5. Reminder: Make follow-up phone calls and Evite.com or mypunchbowl.com reminders to invitees who haven’t responded.

6. Plan the agenda: We will work with you to make your party both informative and fun for you and your guests.

7. Enjoy the party: Have fun and know that raising awareness of child poverty and what can be done to help solve it is pretty cool.

What the heck do we do at the party?

There will a short question and answer period after the presentation.
